Music

Pulse, voice, joy

„I am unmusical“, „I am unmusical“ when I played the flute the family dachshund would howl his accompaniment „I am unmusical“, „I am unmusical“, the voice slipped in fear, „I am unmusical“ was confirmed, the flute, thanks to the dachshund, could be put away, „I am unmusical“ was now a truth, „I am unmusical“, language took pity on me, others are sing-musical, I am language-musical, I am instrument-unmusical, I am speech-musical, others are otherwise-musical—fortunately we are body-musical—all of us, we hear interrelation, change, resonance, we hear with the whole of our body, we find ourselves.

CLIFF!
(2004)

The poem „Cliff!“ by Ulrike Draesner is about two lovers who meet in an impressive but also harsh natural setting. In the way the poet intones her words, her original written text achieves its appropriate acoustic shape. Shouts and whispering, words spoken and words heard, tones and images come together forming a passionate music of language. The composer Sandeep Bhagwati is sensitive to the musical thread within this lyrical poetry and spins the thread out  further in his own music.
